How to Succeed with Fixed-Mobile Convergence

There’s a report out from research firm Analysys, entitled How to Succeed with Fixed-Mobile Convergence. The report proposes that “a narrow focus on dual-mode services based on Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) could distract operators from achieving market breakthroughs with alternative fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) approaches.” It takes a step away from the dialog on FMC and SIP vs UMA vs femtocells to simply address the point that there is much uncertainty about what FMC means in the first place. Take a look at the successful implementations of an FMC service, the failures, and the newly emerging breed of converged service provider. We can learn a lot from the market, not just from the technology.
